Kitchen Table Chalk Paint Flip

How do you like my kitchen table? Pretty cute, huh?

This past October I tried my hand at chalk paint with my china cabinet in the dining room, and now I finally got around to working on the kitchen table!

I started with my favorite brand of chalk paint, Americana Decor. You can find some colors at Home Depot, but I ordered my online this time. I selected "everlasting" (white) for the table, and "enchanted" (green) for my chairs.

Sadly, I don't have the best "before" photo for you guys. The table and chair set was found at a thrift store for $30. The previous owner also tried their hand at painting this set. They went with a lavender/brown color. Yeeks! That had to go!

After sanding all surfaces, I applied one coat, let it dry, then applied a second coat.

Once the second coat dried, I got busy sanding!! I used both a power sander and sand paper (hand sanding) to distress all four chairs, and the table.

The great thing about chalk paint specifically, is that it doesn't take much to sand it off. Because, technically you could achieve the same look with regular paint, but it would just take a lot more effort to sand and distress.

After distressing, I wiped down all surfaces and used an old clean cloth to apply the clear wax sealant. That process is easy, as you just rub it on your chalk furniture.

And then... voila!

What do you think?

If you are thinking about going the chalk paint route for a piece of furniture, or kitchen cabinets, etc, I'd love for you to come take look at the pieces I have in my house.

The texture, sheen, feel, and look is very different from new furniture you see in stores (like a Target, ikea, etc).

For highly used pieces, be aware that they might require some maintenance over time. For this kitchen table set, I know I'll have to apply another coat of the wax sealer every 6 months to a year or so, since it gets used so often. I don't want anything to flake off or discolor.

If you have any questions on chalk paint, feel free to post in the comments section below!

And because this photo is just too cute... Here's my design assistant!

Have a fabulous day!
