January Catch-Up

Life has been wonderfully, blessedly full right now. Not busy, but full.

So much life has happened this month already that some days Christmas feels worlds away.
Here are some of my favorite photos from this month. Enjoy!

I found a steal of a deal on a two-night cruise to the Bahamas, so we packed our bags and headed to the port! Way to start the new year off right!

Next came "baby madness"...
The day after stepping off that cruise ship, Daniel and I went to a work baby shower for three of the ladies currently expecting. (I think they went with the "baby madness" theme, as a twist on basketball's "march madness". All three ladies are due this spring.)
Anyway, I was able to put together a sweet baby quilt for my good friend, Keva. Her little man is due early April.

We cheered on the Cowboys in their playoff games! So sad they didn't make it to the Super Bowl this year, but I can't wait to see what kind of comeback they have in the 2015-2016 season!

Two weekends ago we went to Renniger's in Mt Dora to go pickin' (also known as antiquing). They had one of their large festivals, so there were TONS of vendors with all kinds of treasures. It was a great turn out!

The next day, we went to Universal and Harry Potter World for the first time. So cool! Our favorite attraction had to be riding the Hogwarts Express between the two parks. I was so amazed at it all!

Here are two other random photos for the month.
I finally took some craft time for me and created this super-cute white hydrangea wreath. I know spring is still a few weeks away, but I just had to go for it!

I've also started this new devotional, God's Whispers to a Woman's Heart. It's a refreshing read each morning with my coffee and journal bible.

Oh... and did I also mention that this month I've met with several contractors for the beginning stages of our home remodel, am hosting a baby shower here at the house next month, reconnected with one of my sorority sisters who just bought a home (exciting!), volunteered at the Disney marathon, read a few good Christian books, started bible journalling....

Did I mention that life is very full right now? ;)

Our Home is Getting a Make-Over

We are thrilled to be working on phase two of remodeling our home! When we first bought our house in 2012, we changed a lot of things, really fast. We then had to slow down the pace, and in the majority of 2014, we didn't have the means to work on any projects.

Now, in 2015 God has ushered in a way for us to complete our home to make it beautiful (and functional) for us and for the next family in this home (whenever that may be). If you'd like to hear the (long) story of how that all happened, just ask! I'd love to share! For this blog, though, let's get into some fun photos.

Here's a flashback photo for ya... summer 2012, right when we bought the place!

And... here's a more recent photo. Summer 2014.

Phew! Much better landscaping!

With this 2015 home remodel, we're looking at new bathroom floor and wall tiles, bathroom tubs and faucets, kitchen counter tops, backsplash and lighting, living room and master bedroom paint, removing a tree and trimming the large tree in the front yard. Sounds crazy, huh?

We are so fortunate to be at a place in life to be working on all of these things. Some days I pinch myself, and keep asking "Is this real?".

Although no fun things have happened in the bathrooms yet, we did get a head start with some painting... I posted this sneak peak of the wall color the other day on Instagram. What do you think?

Living Room Before (with swatches painted):

Living Room After:

IT IS DIFFERENT!!!!

Wowy wowy!

We were going for "a little more color". hehehe.. Going from white to orange might not have been the best idea. Also, sadly, the bold burnt orange takes away from the large dark wood furniture pieces in the room.

It's weird- the super large tv wall unit doesn't look that substantial with such a bold color behind. It's like the walls are sucking in all the furniture and becoming the center of attention.

So... back to square one.

I pulled three new paint colors today.
Tan, tan, and tan.

Not only did the burnt orange distract from the furniture pieces, it made it VERY obvious that the rest of our house has a cottage style. Butter yellow, beadboard, painted white furniture. None of that goes with texas orange.

So, I did the smart thing this time and painted some samples right on top of my kitchen walls that are light yellow. Thankfully, any of the options compliment what we already have. Phew!

Looks like we're painting again this weekend! Oy vay!

Keep checking back here, and follow on Instagram, for tons of fun (and quirky) renovation moments to come!  2015, we're so excited for ya!!

My New Year - 2015

Wow. A brand new year starts today. What excitement, what hope. What spectacular things lie ahead for 2015.

As I put together my vision board for this new year, I became more and more excited for what 2015 could become. This past year has been a year of incredible internal growth and reflection. A year of pruning and changing. In my mind, that can only mean 2015 is going to be a huge year for us! I get this feeling in my spirit that we are just about to arrive at something great. That 2014 was a year of preparation, and now it's time to put that growth into action.

"As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”
Mark 4:29

For 2015, I hope to...

  • Take wonderful vacations with my husband including another cruise, camping in Stone Mountain, Georgia, and I'd love to visit Washington D.C. again (this time on July 4th!). I never take these moments for granted, because there were so many years where there were no vacations. Definitely a treat!
  • Start bible journalling. In a nut-shell, it's illustrating what God's word means to you in the expanded margins of a note taker's bible. There are a few different ways people do bible journalling, just search Pinterest for a few.
  • Fix up our house! I know, I know, we've done so much already. Even still, God has recently opened up a door for us to finish the home, and make it enjoyable for us to live in and a blessing for the next family whenever that time is right.
  • Cook more and buy more kitchen gadgets. 'Nuff said!
  • Stay healthy through continual exercise. Can't wait to do some Zumba! No major goals here, just desiring to stay healthy through old-fashioned eating right and weekly exercise.
  • Start a family of our own. This one might be surprising to read for some, but God placed on our heart the desire to pray about starting a family early last year. It's amazing what God will do when you ask Him to teach you to love children the way He does. In His timing (where that's 2015 or some other year), we would love to welcome children into our family.
  • Strengthen core friendships, while also reaching out to new friends

And that's it! What are your desires for 2015?? I hope this inspires you to go for your best!
