What I've Been Up To Lately...

I know, I know, posts have been a little slow lately from me. Not as much crafting going on. Wrong!

I've been having a blast working on decorations for a bridal shower and some bridal shower gifts! You'll just have to wait a few more weeks for the reveal!

The other bridesmaids and I have teamed up for some spectacular and fun ideas for a coffee-themed shower. Stay tuned!

In the meantime... Here's what's been going on..

DIY diaper cake! For a little girl, of course! After searching Pinterest, I stumbled across these phenomenal instructions! Check out how Jamie does it on SavvyStyle.net. Baby shower is this week- hopefully mom loves it!

Fall kitchen wreaths!
I went to a wreath making party last week and created these babies!
Super fun and not too difficult to make.

Lastly, some pumpkin patchwork coasters for my Etsy shop. You can check out the listing here
I just love this pumpkin print I bought for a fall project last year! I had some scrap leftover, and voila!
Adorbs!

Take a Day for Your Home

This past Labor Day weekend, while everyone took a break from working, we took a day for our home. That's right-- we did the semi-annual cleaning day! Earlier this year (around March) I spent an entire weekend scrubbing the inside of the house. Now, it was time to do it again!

Here are some of the highlights from the day...
We pulled the fridge out from the wall and removed the plastic covering (found at the bottom) to clean the coils. See that fuzzy grey stuff? Gross! A quick swipe of the shop vac did the trick.

I cleaned the bottom of the oven using water and baking soda. Remove your racks and sprinkle some baking soda on the bottom. Spray with water and let sit for the afternoon. Later, you should be able to remove any nasties, no problem!

My husband was so sweet and dusted and vacuumed the whole house. We pulled the furniture back from behind the wall, and sucked up all the dust bunnies. We then used the wet Swiffer to mop our laminate floors.

Inspiration for this day would not have been possible without the BrightNest App

I LOVE THIS APP!! You can also search their website by clicking here. They have the best quick tips on home maintenance, safety, and decor. I had no idea how important some of the tips and instructions were for the longevity and health of your home.

I'm Opening an Etsy Shop!

Introducing... Lilac & Lovely! An Etsy shop for 2014 fabric calendars. My hand-crafted fabric calendars are a cozy and natural inspiration for you each day!

I am so, so excited to be sharing my Etsy store launch with you! I've been keeping this fun project a secret since June!

The idea for an Etsy store started back in February, when I crafted my own fabric calendar for 2013. Check out the story of how it all started here. It took me several months to decide on what I could sell at a craft fair or online. Then, one morning, it finally hit me! Making my own 2013 fabric calendar was so fun, and very unique, why not make them for others?!

Each calendar is 100% hand-crafted and these one-of-a-kind pieces truly are unique! I never use the same quote or design combination twice on any of my custom calendars. I start with a cotton fabric applique, and zig-zag sew it onto my linen calendar. Then, I hand-embroider an inspirational quote or saying in coordinating colors. Once the design is ready, I etch out each month and week to make up 2014. Last, but not least, I add the backing, sew the loop for the dowel, and add the lace trim.

Follow the behind-the-scenes action on my Instagram account, @lilacandlovely. You'll get sneak-peaks at calendars I'm working on that are not yet posted for sale. You'll also be able to see how each calendar is made, with pictures of calendars in all stages of production.

Check out my Etsy shop and let me know if there is something special I can create for you!
