Yep, I did it! I made it through my second 5K event. I had a blast at my first 5K in November, so I signed up for this race a few weeks later.
This morning was the Lady Track Shack 5K at Mead Gardens in Winter Park. Daniel was so sweet and got up early to head down there with me. Despite my fears, we made it there without any parking or traffic problems. Phew!
My goal for this race was to complete it while maintaining my 2 minute/1 minute interval. 2 minutes walking, 1 minute jogging. At my first 5K, I needed a few 3 minute walking breaks, but this time, I maintained my 2/1 the whole time!
There were definitely some times where I just thought there was no way I could jog, when my interval timer beeped. But I just kept pressing on. What I've learned about running (and other things in life), is that when things get really tough, you will be filled with incredible self-doubt and be ready to stop.
But. you. cant.
You have to dig down to the very soul and spirit of yourself and push past the negativity. It's amazing that once you do that, somehow you end up moving on. Your legs keep going, and you move.
I ended up finishing faster than my first 5K. I was just shy of 49 minutes! Wohoo!
Needless to say, I'm not so interested in speed, just endurance. I met my goal and I'm so proud of it!
Next stop... 10K here we come! :)
